OUR MISSION
The Historical Society preserves our community's history and promotes it in ways that educate and inspire curiosity about the people and events that shaped Mount Dora.
OUR HISTORY
In 1953, City Council proposed creating a historical society and writing a history of Mount Dora. R.J. Longstreet's book, The Story of Mount Dora, was published in 1960. The Historical Society archives were begun in 1956 with the purchase of a cabinet that was stored in City Hall. The first item collected was a picture of City Hall as a residence.
